Making digital content accessible for everyone is very important. It allows all users equal access to information, regardless of any specific needs they may have. The text used for hyperlinks should also be created in a way that makes them accessible.

For example, you may have links similar to this in your page/document:

https://ipark.hud.ac.uk/index.php/support-guidance/digital-accessibility/links/ or Click here some users would struggle to know where the link will take them especially someone using a screen reader.

Here are some tips for making accessible hyperlinks:

• Use link text that is descriptive and accurate. Giving a clear idea of where the link takes the user to.
• Make sure that links on the same page/document should have unique text so it is possible to distinguish between them.

• Have hyperlink text that’s only 1 or 2 characters as this will be difficult to click on.
• Include the word ‘link’ in the hyperlink text because screen readers say link before each link.
• Use vague link text such as Click here or More.
• Capitalise the link text because it is harder to read, and can cause issues with screen readers.
