Home > Blog > Have You Tried? > Did you know about the Library guidance for citing AI generated text and images?

When you can use AI can be confusing. But did you know that the library has some useful guidance on this topic? Please make sure your students are aware of this too.

Here are the main points from the library:

  • We do not expect you to use AI tools to contribute to the completion of your assessment or online exam unless you have been explicitly told that you should. If you are told you may use AI, then it should be appropriately referenced.
  • If you cite multiple images/text from one tool, create a reference for each, and check the principle of citation for formatting.
  • Use permalink URL if tool provides one, if not use generic homepage for the AI tool.
  • If including the image in your work, use the following layout and cite the website as you would a direct quote.

You can find more details on guidance for AI generated text and guidance for AI generated images as well as a handy reference builder tool on the Library site.
